How to Get Started With Social Media Content Planning

Posted: March 24th, 2022

As digital marketers, we regularly hear about the importance of having a consistent social media posting strategy in today’s day and age. No matter your industry, audience, or social media platform, the key is to post regularly on various channels. However, to get to the stage of posting regularly always begins with creating a social media content calendar. Continue reading to learn how to get started with social media content planning.

1.) Dedicate A Topic for Each Day

When planning your social media content calendar, the first step is to dedicate a topic to each day of the week. Don’t let the word ‘topic’ confuse you. What we mean is to dedicate each day to a specific theme. For example, we post a curated article that we find resourceful from a reputable source on Tuesdays. Your theme days will look significantly different from ours as a tourism organization. However, each theme post should include a link back to your website.

As a best practice, we recommend posting a minimum of 5 times per week on each social channel. Consistency is key!

2.) Plan Content Out in Advance

Community managers rarely have downtime, making finding daily time to post on social media difficult. This is why we highly recommend scheduling your content out in advance. However, as a best practice, leave some room for creativity and spontaneity by not planning a month’s worth of content.

However, we recommend planning those more impactful, time-consuming content such as blogs and videos in advance. Aiming to set a schedule a month in advance is helpful as it gives time to prep and find valuable resources for your content.
